In 2012, Adamawa had witnessed a gruesome massacre by Boko Haram militants at a post-secondary technical college.
Mubi is located near Nigeria’s border with Cameroon and near the area from where two Italian priests and a Canadian nun were captured in April by Boko Haram gunmen.
The three were allowed to walk free on Sunday and they were then taken to Cameroon in a military helicopter.
The bomb exploded at around 6:30 pm (1730 GMT) at the pitch in Mubi’s Kabang area. The explosion happened when fans were trying to leave the field after watching a local club match.
Eyewitnesses said that women and children were also caught up in the blast. Boko Haram had started armed war against the Nigerian government in 2009 and the group has killed over 1000 people so far.
In April, the group kidnapped over 200 girls from a school. All these girls are still in their captivity.
