Nigerian Military uncovers Boko Haram target list
According to a statement issued by PRNigeria, during a pursue of the terrorists around Hildi, Adamawa State, no fewer than seven terrorists lost their lives, while a total of five rifles, hundreds of rounds of ammunition, as well as bows and arrows were recovered from them.
The statement further stated that during another special raid conducted on Balmo and Lame forests, linking Borno, Bauchi and Adamawa states, the troops recovered rifles and a number of motorcycles after a stiff resistance by terrorists was crushed.
Over 20 of them lost their lives, while some were reported wounded.
Defence spokesman, General Chris Olukolade, who confirmed the incidents, said six soldiers were wounded in the encounter.
The statement, however, noted that at the end of the encounter, troops eventually took control of the forest.
Meanwhile, campaign against terrorists’ activities is on, with air and land operations being conducted in various parts of the country.
‘Over 46,000 IDPs from Gwoza seeking refuge in 9 villages, 15,000 in government camps’
No fewer than 16,000 persons from Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State have been forcefully sent to seek refuge in their homes due to the incessant insurgents’ attack.
Chairman, Board of Trustees of Gwoza Christian communities, Mr Williams Naga, disclosed this while presenting food items donated by the state government to the Internetally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in Maiduguri.
Naga said over 46,000 IDPs from Gwoza were currently seeking refuge in nine different villages, while 15, 000 were staying in government camps.
He also explained that about 16,000 IDPs from Gwoza were currently taking refuge in seven camps in Maiduguri Metropolitan Council (MMC).
He said Governor Kashim Shettima had donated N10 million for the upkeep of the IDPs in the state capital and N2 million to facilitate transportation of those in Cameroon.
Also speaking, Mr Haruna Amodu, the distribution committee chairman, said out of the N10 million, N6 million was spent on procurement foodstuffs for the IDPs .
Amodu said apart from government ‘s assistance, former religious affairs commissioner, Alhaji Mamman Darkwa, personally donated 100 hundred bags of rice and four cows to ameliorate the sufferings of the IDPs.
NUT wants assistance for affected teachers’ families
The Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) has called on the Federal Government to assist families of teachers who were killed by the Boko Haram sect in the course of imparting knowledge to students in Borno State.
Borno State chairman of the association, Alhaji Bulama Abiso, made the appeal while distributing relief materials worth millions of naira to families of the teachers who died as the result of insurgency.
Abiso said 50 families would be given N200,000 for three months, pointing out that it would go a long way to ease the hardship of their families.
He also said the North-Eastern chapter of the union would contribute additional N200,000 for three months, to ensure all families benefitted.
