As Christians celebrate Holy Week, a reported sighting of Jesus Christ has transformed a house south of Cameroon’s capital Yaoundé into a pilgrimage site.Since the start of the week, police have been called in to contain crowds thronging Mrs Amougui Minkan’s residence where the sighting is claimed to have occurred.
“Very bright light shone through the window with the silhouette of an individual whose face I could not readily make out,” Mrs Amougui, a Roman Catholic, told Equinoxe Television Thursday.
She said the “startling” image which gave her goose bumps was then superimposed on a wall just outside the window.
“Steadily the image became clearer but I did not believe my eyes at first.”

She then sought a second opinion, that of a nephew, which confirmed the image to be that of Jesus Christ.
“I have seen people scream, fall and lose consciousness,” a witness said of Christians and other people who have continued to swarm the house out of curiosity.
To back their claims of having seen Christ, Mrs Amougui and her relatives have taken photos of the image which are on permanent display on a television set in their living room.
“I told him, if you’re really Jesus, and since I have to say that I saw your face, something I can’t do without evidence, allow us film you.
“At one point, we began to pray,” Mrs Amougui said and “as we prayed, the picture became clearer and clearer.”
The Roman Catholic Church in Cameroon has not yet commented on the sighting.
The Vatican’s Sacred Congregation for the Doctrine of Faith outlines the Church’s sighting rules so as to evaluate authenticity.
Such sightings, usually controversial, are seen by critics mere perceptions of religious imagery in natural phenomena, sometimes called simulacra.
