Liverpool pull the plug on Samuel Eto’o transfer as Mario Balotelli deal draws closer

Liverpool have reportedly pulled the plug on plans to sign Samuel Eto’o.It was claimed that Cameroon international Eto’o had been lined up as a short-term option for Brendan Rodgers’ attack with talks having taken place with the veteran striker about a deal to bring him to Anfield.

But, according to the the Liverpool Echo, the Reds have now abandoned their attempts to sign the former Barcelona and Chelsea man – who is a free agent – as the club move closer to sealing a £16million move for AC Milan striker Mario Balotelli.

Local rivals Everton are also said to be in talks with Eto’o as they look to provide further cover for first-choice striker Romelu Lukaku.
