The president of the Republic this Thursday 24th September 2014 signed a decree creating the first state owned National Football Academy dubbed ANAFOOT.The National Football Academy will ensure the proper development of football expertise in the country, in the domain of coaching, refereeing and the management of sports infrastructures.The structure will guarantee football education in Cameroon, through the training of youths with football ethics and the Professional aspect of its put in place.
The academy will also be involved in three main categories of football; the training and development of football tactics, professional football techniques and lastly research and documentation of football in the country.
In a interview with a football trainer, Engelbert Mbarga moments after presidential decree creating the football academy was released, he expressed satisfaction, saying that the Football School will greatly improve and exploit talents across the national territory.
A football analyst Ernest Awasom Junior, on his part says the football institution will make-up for the shortcomings the national football team has recorded in past years. He also thinks that, the creation will help build players and trainers locally.
Mr. Awasom concludes that, ANAFOOT will reduce the independence of Cameroonians trained in foreign countries.
It is worth noting that, the creation of this institution is an effect of President Biya’s promise to the youths during the National Youth Day celebration in February 2009 and the follow-up of the National Conference by Football delegates in 2011.
