Roger Milla critisizes Cameroon over friendlies with Indonesia and Thailand

Cameroon legend Roger Milla has questioned the Indomitable Lions’ decision to travel far to Southeast Asia for the two international friendlies against Indonesia and Thailand

The retired great has labelled it as humiliation to Cameroon football to play against the aforementioned sides.

“Confronting Indonesia and Thailand is a humiliation for Cameroon.” Milla was quoted as saying.

“I don’t know why the association organized friendly games against them….Maybe the association needs to take a little money… It’s a shame. We do not need friendly games at least not against such teams,” Milla apparently said.

However Indonesian media and the country’s interim head-coach Benny Dolo expressed disappointment at Milla’s remarks considering he also had stints with Pelita Jaya and Putra Samarinda in Indonesia in the mid 90’s.

“It is inappropriate words coming from a legend like him. Not only a harassment, but also represent arrogance,” said Benny to the press.

“It’s as if he doesn’t want other countries to develop and he wants to avoid quality spread among international football community.

“Before World Cup 2002 at Japan and South Korea, I recall Brazil did the same [playing against teams at lower level]. So I think he’s exaggerating the situation.

“We don’t have problem playing against Spain or Germany. I hope our motivation is triggered by Milla’s statement. I’m sure we can make Cameroon difficult with playing collective and hard work.” said Benny.

The two matches are expected to be played during the FIFA International week next week.
