Kenyan model and socialite, Vera Sidika, (also known as “Kenya’s Kim Kardashian”), is being criticized on social media for spending over $170,000 on skin whitening.People are using the hashtag #BleachedBeauty to comment on Sidika’s use of skin bleach.

In an interview with BBC, Sidika defended her actions, saying she needed “fresher skin,” and claimed most women are taking part in the trend because society favors women and men with light skin.
